I wonder if I’m being too ambitious. To date, I’ve come up with dozens of different story seeds, each of which could plausibly become the root of a perfectly good book.
Instead, I’m trying to weave all these diverse ideas together into a multi-layered, yet cohesive backdrop.
It feels like putting together a puzzle where all the pieces can change shape, and some of the pieces may or may not be optional. Sometimes I doubt it’s worth the effort.
Then, of course, I tell myself that nothing great was ever accomplished by aiming low.
How do you know when to keep chasing after an ambitious goal and when to scale down to something more manageable?
