A friend asked me on Twitter: “What’s your promise to the world? What are you giving to your audience that no one else is?”
Once upon a time I would have thought long and hard before responding to this sort of question, trying to come up with something suitably ambitious and impressive.
Now the answer is easy.
What do I have to offer that no one else can? My perspective. I’m a writer and a curator, and this is my little corner of the web. The unique combination of what I write, share, or rant about is what I have to offer.
This kind of answer doesn’t sit well with a lot of people. That’s because what they really want to know is: “What you’re doing – can you monetize it?”
Can I? I dunno. Probably not. Maybe sometime in the future.
There are other ways to make money.
And I do know that doing this – writing, collecting, sharing – makes me happy. If I’m lucky, I might make you happy too. How much is that worth?
It’s a small, good thing. For now, that’s enough.
